For decades upon decades, EYC has held weekly Beetle Cat racing on the Edgewood Basin. Indeed, Beetle Cat racing is one of the oldest traditions at EYC, a club that has well over 130 years of history. In recent years, the Beetle Cat racing season has been divided into three series: the Spring Series, in June; the Summer Series, in July and August; and the Fall Series, otherwise known as the Harris Sweepstakes, in September. The first race starts at 630pm in June and July, at 615pm in August, and at 6pm in September. Races are run off the EYC docks, so it is a great place to settle in on a Wednesday evening and watch some fun racing. Beetle Cat sailors at EYC span eight decades in age and a wide range of experience … it is an easy fleet to join even if you have never raced before!
